Sydney Swans fans are the type of diehard fans that have shown the team unwavering support throughout the years. Now, the Sydney Swans are showing their love for their fans through VW Fan Support, an initiative in which players fulfil requests for help from fans with all kinds of day to day tasks. From driving instructors to orange peelers, the team are happily filling these roles for their beloved supporters.

It’s been an interesting journey for the Swans since their early days. Previously known as South Melbourne and founded in 1874, the team made their first Grand Final appearance in 1899. Having won a few premierships throughout the early 1900s, the team then experienced a 72 year drought, the longest time without a premiership win of any club.

In 1982, the club moved to Sydney, as part of a long term plan by the VFL to spread the game into New South Wales and Queensland. The team was initially known as just the ‘Swans’, until they fully adopted the Sydney aspect of their name one year later.

The club experienced some dark days throughout the late 80s and early 90s with the side winning the wooden spoon three years in a row. The team was back on track in 1995 though with the recruitment of some big name players such as Tony “Plugger” Lockett. In the 200s the team rose to take out the premiership in 2005 and then again in 2012.

The support of their fans means a great amount to the Sydney Swans, so check out the video below and if you’ve got something you could use a little extra help with, make sure you submit your request here.
