Hanging Out At Palihouse West Hollywood

When I’m looking for a cool hotel in a major city, I often get overwhelmed at first by the sheer number of hotels available. Then as I build my shortlist I become increasingly picky and realise there’s actually not that many hotels to choose from once I’ve factored in everything from price range and location, to imagined vibe. After days of scrolling, bookmarking and scrolling some more, I’ll lock something in and pray I didn’t make the wrong choice.

Well, I’m here to save you the hassle the next time you travel to LA – Palihouse West Hollywood is a winner. Taking the best things about a boutique hotel and luxury residence and combining them to create a hotel experience that feels more like your own apartment, in 10 years from now, when you can afford a nicer place, in a better area.

A welcome change from more traditional hotels, the residential-style dwelling of Palihouse gave me a new burst of life half way through my stay in LA. In an unsuspecting location on Holloway Drive just off North La Cienega Boulevard, the hotel is just a short walk from Melrose Avenue and other key attractions in the West Hollywood area. It’s no grand affair when you pull up, but when you walk through the doors you’ll feel a sudden sense of calm as you look over the eclectic yet stylish lobby. The Lobby Lounge has an industrial vibe, prominently featuring an array of distressed leather sofas and armchairs in contrasting colours. It’s an awesome place to hang out and have a coffee, catch up on some emails and pretend not to listen in to the conversations of the budding young film makers, actors and other creatives that frequent the lounge.

When I checked into my classic guest suite, the first thing that came to mind was ‘ahh, space’ – and i was in one of the smaller rooms! It was definitely generous in size, with the bedroom area being separated from the living/kitchen by a tv and console with a selection of drinks and something from Le Labo that my girlfriend was excited about.

The exposed brick feature wall at the end of the room was a strong design feature that added to the industrial vibe of the hotel. There were marble accents along the kitchen bench which was modern, fresh and fully stocked with everything we needed for a home cooked meal – which is a necessity after smashing some In-N-Out Burger for lunch (hey, I was in LA after all). The contemporary bathroom featured a cheeky window that let you see from the shower to the living room and vice versa – unfortunately it was only at head height.

On the rooftop of Palihouse is Sunset Cocktail Lounge, which opens towards the back end of the week, serving up delicious drinks and awesome views of the city. Downstairs is the Courtyard which I’ll describe by using a word I don’t often use – tranquil. Having breakfast in this spot is super relaxing and almost feels like you’re sitting at the outdoor tables of a quiet Parisian cafe.

Palihouse West Hollywood takes industrial cool and injects it with a good dose of modern luxury, making for an excellent choice of accomodation in West Hollywood, or even LA in general for that matter.
